Graphic - Botany Bay 1788

This black and white graphic art print is about those first settlers arriving in at Botany Bay.  The image was inspired by the fear of the new settlers who came to Australia.  Those on board could not cope with this strange new land.  So they drank rum to the point that they forgot where they were.  Botany Bay in the 1700’s had been called ‘Stingray Bay’ because of the copious numbers of stingrays in the water.  The new settlers being from England, with the gentle soft green hills and the little birds and rabbits were not accustomed to Australia’s animal life.  Our birds like cockatoos that screeched, the sounds of the hissing of jurassic looking goanna’s and imagine seeing a bay that slivered with the covering of black leather backs of those stingrays!
